NORWAY — On Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., the Norway Historical Society will feature a program titled “Dear Descendant … Notes Our Ancestors Left for Us,” hosted by Larry Glatz.

Glatz will share letters from Norway in the Forties — from a Norwegian who went off to pan for gold in California, along with letters from the northern front during the War of 1812.

Norway in the Forties is a compilation of weekly articles written by Dr. Osgood N. Bradbury (1828-1897) that were published in the Norway Advertiser from 1886 to 1897. Bradbury’s columns originally told about people, places and events in Norway in the 1840s.

Glatz will be assisted with readings from family letters and diaries by Jeffery Parsons and Marion Howe as well as excerpts from letters and diaries in the Society’s collection presented by Curator Charles Longley.

Glatz is the past president of the Norway Historical Society and received the 2014 Maine Historical Society’s Neal W. Allen Jr. History Award in recognition of outstanding contributions in the field of Maine history and genealogy at the organization’s 114th annual meeting.

The Norway Historical Society is at 471 Main St. For more information, see norwayhistoricalsociety.org or call 743-7377.
