1920 – 2014
AUBURN — Margery Etta (Hammond) Dyer, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Clover Health Care.
She was born in New Sharon on June 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Alice Marie and Clarence Hammond. She attended school in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1939. She also attended Oak Grove Finishing School and Farmington Normal School. Margery taught kindergarten at Lake Street School for 25 years.
She married Donald Dyer in 1942, and raised three children.
She enjoyed playing golf with her husband at Fairlawn Country Club and vacationing during the winter in Naples, Fla. Margery participated in activities at Edgewood Condominiums, where she lived for many years and served on the board of directors.
Margery will be missed by her daughters and their husbands, Dona and Spencer Stewart of Lisbon Falls and Jane and Wallace Ham of Ellsworth; her son, John Dyer and his wife, Pamela, of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Gretchen Stewart Stevens of Lisbon Falls, Eric Stewart of Lisbon Falls, Susi Stewart of Lisbon Falls, John O’Brien of Sudbury, Mass., Beth O’Brien Wright of San Diego, Calif., Adam Dyer of Aspen, Colo., and Nick Dyer of Portland; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Her family gives thanks to Margaret for the hospice care that was so helpful in the final weeks of her life; as well as Dr. Hattan, Steve, Theresa, Claire, Kim and all the staff at Clover Health Care, where she lived for nearly two years. They also express their gratitude to the staff at the Chapman House, where Margery resided for two years prior to Clover.
