PARIS — Local law enforcement agencies will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Route 26 between 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, and 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.

Paris Police Department, with assistance from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Oxford and Norway police departments, will station a checkpoint looking for intoxicated drivers.

The effort is part of the Drive Sober, Maine! campaign funded by the Bureau of Highway Safety.

Paris Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Lange said the first checkpoint held in July was successful in educating the public on the dangers of driving under the influence. Officers charged about 10 drivers during that initiative.
