1929 – 2014
PORTLAND — Jeremiah Kennedy Jr., 84, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Maine Medical Center.
Jeremiah was born in New Haven, Conn., on Dec. 3, 1929, the son of Jeremiah and Emelie (Haegel) Kennedy Sr. He graduated from Cony High School and attended Bentley College.
After faithful service to his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he returned and attended the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.
He married Sandra Fletcher of Norway on June 23, 1957.
Jeremiah served as a financial planner at IBM for many years and was a certified public accountant.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Norway Country Club, Bethlehem Lodge No. 35 AF & AM of Augusta and the IBM Club in Florida. Jeremiah was also an accomplished sailor; he and Sandra wintered on their sailboat in Florida for seven winters.
Surviving are his wife of Norway; a son, Jeremiah S. Kennedy and his wife, Heidi, of Bristol, Vt.; his daughter, Jennifer Kennedy Zanca and her companion, David Bell, of Auburn; his former son-in-law, Edward Zanca, DMD, of Camden; his sister, Janet Kennedy, of Bedford, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Kennedy, Benjamin Kennedy, Mariah Zanca and Jamey Zanca.
