Rumford police Chief Stacy Carter said Munster worked for Somatex Inc., a crane company in Pittsfield, and was doing repair work on a crane “approximately 28 feet in the air when he struck a roof support and fell,” Carter said.

Munster was declared dead at the scene by Med-Care Ambulance Services, who were called to the mill at about 1:50 p.m., Carter said. Med-Care employees called the Rumford Police Department.

As of Tuesday morning, Carter said local police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were in the early stages of their investigation.

This the fifth fatality at the paper mill in the past 35 years. Four workers died during the time the mill was owned and operated by Mead Corp.

According to the NewPage website, the company was established in 2005 and is a leading producer of printing and specialty papers. The company operates other paper mills in Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
