DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your wonderful column! I am looking for a copy of “I Remember When.” This is a paperback book from the Weld Historical Society.
I have searched the most likely places including the historical society and have been told there are no more copies. The book originated in 1993.
I am hoping there may be some readers out there who have a copy in good condition that they would be willing to part with. Thank you. — June Williams, Jay, 207-645-4804
ANSWER: You might try Artios used books, 180 Turner St., Auburn, 207-786-4007, or Twice Sold Tales, 155 Main St., Farmington, 207-778-4411.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We need to remove our large dairy barn as soon as possible and either have it demolished or removed in some way.
Is there anyone who would be interested in having old barn boards and beams just for taking it down?
If anyone is seriously and genuinely interested in relocating it or having the boards for the demolition, please call 207-375-8842. — No Name, Wales
ANSWER: In one of those amazing coincidences she loves, a couple days after your letter arrived, Sun Spots came across an advertisement in her local weekly newspaper.
The ad says “Barn Boards and More has been recycling Maine Barns since 2008. In that time we have stockpiled lots of hand-hewn beams, rough-sawn beams, barn board, barn doors, windows, hardware and lots of cool stuff that we have found in these barns.”
It appears they make stuff out of old barns. But they might want to buy more barns or know of another business that does. Call Barn Boards and More at 207-293-4477 or email [email protected].
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In your Aug. 6 column, someone wanted to know where to buy high school items.
CVS and Shaw’s in Auburn had Edward Little High School items, and CVS in Lewiston had Lewiston High School items. There were T-shirts, sweats and even teddy bears.
Of course, this was during the school year. Hope this helps. — Faithful Reader, No Town
ANSWER: As school will soon be in session, that gear should be available soon. Read on for another option.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The person looking for sportswear bearing the logos of local high schools might try Rogue Wear, 9 Westminster St., Lewiston, 207-786-2931. They are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Bill, Lewiston
HI, SUN SPOTS! Always enjoy reading you responses. I know you’ve previously listed some individuals who help nongeeks like me with computers. Would much appreciate the information, and this time I’ll write it down! Thanks. — No Name via email
ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t have this category in her Rolodex, as the list changes regularly and varies depending on what kind of help you seek.
If you want help learning software, you might want to look into adult education or check with the public library.
David Bergeron, [email protected], has written to Sun Spots a couple of times saying he helps people with their computers part time, but he has not been specific as to what kind of help.
As for computer repair, one option is Jim Fish at Action Computers, 207-786-8740.
Staples and Best Buy also have repair centers. But be forewarned. It is often more expensive to fix a computer than it is to buy a new one.
Periodically, local groups or schools provide services along this line, but Sun Spots doesn’t know of any currently. Readers?
