AUBURN — After “a great seven years,” Club Texas’ owners are closing the doors following a Thursday finale.
Benefit concerts, heavy metal cover bands, country line dancing and mechanical bulls: Club Texas has hosted it all over the past seven years that Rhonda and Jim Hart have owned the Center Street fixture.
“It’s kind of bittersweet,” Rhonda Hart said of the 9,000-square-foot space leased from adjacent Stratham Tire. However, Hart said, “It’s just not advantageous anymore.”
With such a large space comes a large operating cost, Hart said. “It’s just, operating 9,000 square feet on Center Street is not cheap.”
Hart expressed gratitude for her staff, many of whom have been with the Harts since they took over the business in 2007. Some have been with Club Texas for as many as 10 years. She thanked the loyal community of patrons, local and national acts, as well as DJs.
Hart wouldn’t rule out another go at the club business in the future, but for now, the couple is looking forward to making new plans together.
Club Texas will have a final “Farewell Show” on Thursday with doors opening at 6 p.m. There will be line dancing and karaoke as well as a final set by DJ B-Set and a final beer pong tournament.
