BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society will host its annual potluck supper and meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Dr. Moses Mason House.

Executive Director Randall Bennett said the supper is free and open to the public.

After the supper and election of officers and trustees, Dean B. Bennett, professor emeritus at the University of Maine at Farmington, will present a program titled “In Banjo Time: History and Music of the 4-String Roaring Twenties Banjo.”

“I think Dean’s presentation is going to be really fun,” Randall Bennett said. “He said that it would be half PowerPoint presentation and half music performance. He’ll be dressing up in an outfit and actually performing a series of songs from the Roaring ’20s on a banjo.”

Dean Bennett has published several books, Randall Bennett said, and is a national award-winning environmental activist.

The Bethel Historical Society will also present the Marjorie MacArthur Noll Volunteer Service Award in recognition of residents who have volunteered their time to the community.
