LEWISTON — Susan Hedrich, director of volunteer services at Central Maine Medical Center, is one of two winners of a leadership award from the Maine Society Directors of Healthcare Volunteer Services (MSDHVS).

Hedrich received the Director of Volunteer Excellence (DOVE) Award at the Maine Hospital Association Summer Forum held at the Samoset Resort in late June, given for outstanding leadership in the field of healthcare volunteer management.

The award is presented to a member of the Maine Association of Directors of Healthcare Volunteer Services and is achieved by being nominated by a colleague.

Hedrich has been a MSDHVS member for 22 years and has been involved in volunteer management for 27 years. She has served MSDHVS as hospitality chairwoman, membership chairwoman, secretary and member-at-large. She is also a member of the New England Association.

Hedrich is constantly striving to improve the volunteer program at CMMC. In 2012 she received the New England Association’s President’s Award for outstanding program development for the “Workforce- RX- Equipment Shopping” Program and has recently implemented a new cuddler program in NICU nursery.

Hedrich was the 2010 recipient of the Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award through the Maine Commission for Community Service. She is an advocate for recognition of CMMC’s volunteers who contributed more than 64,000 hours in 2013. In both 2010 and 2012 a CMMC volunteer was honored as the Maine Volunteer of the Year.

Hedrich is a charter member of the Androscoggin Volunteer Association. Hedrich has a history of volunteer experience representing her hospital in the community as well as her own personal experiences as a volunteer in a range of causes and activities. With more than two dozen years of experience, Hedrich is an advocate for volunteers and the volunteer profession.
