MONDAY
LABOR DAY — Schools and government offices closed.
TUESDAY
LEWISTON — Bates College Convocation, 11 a.m. at Historic Quad, College Street and Campus Avenue. Ceremony welcomes freshmen class, 498 members of Class of 2018. The class makeup includes 21 percent students of color, 8 percent international students and 10 percent students who are the first in their families to attend college. In case of rain, ceremony will be held inside Alumni Gymnasium.
LEWISTON — Lewiston City Council workshop and regular meeting in Lewiston City Hall. Workshop is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and topics include putting a recreational marijuana voters’ initiative on the November ballot.
WEDNESDAY
AUBURN — Auburn School Committee, Auburn Hall, at 5:30 p.m. Workshop school resource officer Shawn Carll and Deputy Chief Jason Moen will discuss two school initiatives, one to reduce suspensions, another to use police dogs for high school drug searches. At 7 p.m., a report on requesting an extension on implementing a proficiency-based diploma and a vote on whether there should be free lunches for all Auburn students.
AUBURN — Lewiston Auburn Bike Ped Comittee, 5 p.m. in Auburn Hall.
THURSDAY
LEWISTON — Lewiston Historic Preservation Review Board meets at 3 p.m. in Lewiston City Hall.
SATURDAY
LEWISTON — Museum L-A’s third annual Mini Maker Faire, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bates Mill Atrium at 35 Canal St. Makers, performers, entrepreneurs, garage tinkerers and 50 Model T Fords will be on hand, opportunities for children and adults to get creative with a 3-D printer, work on human patient simulator, build a masonry wall, enjoy the “gooiness” of Mad Science slime time. Tickets $8 in advance, $10 at the door for adults; $5 for ages 11 to 18, children age 10 and under free.
