AUBURN — Central Maine Community College will offer a high pressure boiler operator course from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 15 through Dec. 1, on the Auburn campus.

The course will provide participants with the knowledge and techniques to operate a steam-generating plant in a safe and efficient manner. Basics of boiler design and control will be emphasized as well as the importance of feed water treatment.

Topics will include day-to-day operations, steam turbine control and power generation, and environmental control parameters to meet emission requirements. The safe handling and combustion of natural gas, fuel oil, coal and wood fuel will be covered.

The course offers a practical approach to power plant operation and is designed to prepare the student for the state high pressure boiler operator licensing exam.

Registration deadline is Monday, Sept. 8. Some experience in the field is required in order to sit for the state license. The cost is $475 and includes all materials and books.
