Rumford Chief Stacy Carter said Tuesday morning by email that at approximately 9:05 p.m. Monday, the department received a call about a man yelling and waving a gun around on his porch in Rumford Center.

A neighbor heard the commotion and went to investigate with his son and another boy, he said.

On getting close to the residence, the man pointed a gun at them and made a threat, Carter said.

The gun was later identified as a .44 pistol, according to a police affidavit filed by Maine Drug Enforcement agent Tony Milligan. Milligan has requeasted a search warrant on suspicion more firearms may be at the residence.

They retreated and called 911. Officers responded and the man had gone inside. Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
