1952 – 2014

LEWISTON — Gaston “Gus” M. Marquis, 62, a resident of Martin Drive in Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 1, at home, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.

Gus was born in St. Gideon, Quebec, on July 24, 1952, a son of Ovilda and Marie-Laure (Giroux) Marquis. He and his family moved from Canada to Lewiston in 1955. He attended Holy Cross Elementary School and was a 1971 graduate of Lewiston High School.

Gus was employed at Jim’s Auto Sales; there, he established a lifelong friendship with its owner, Jim Pittman.

Gus was known for his loyalty, generosity and his love of family. He enjoyed fishing, garage sales and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Hartford and husband, Todd, of Leeds, and their two children, Alana and Ethan; two brothers, Reggie Marquis and wife, Rita, of Randolph and Gaetan Marquis and wife, Marie, of Lewiston; and two sisters, Carol Swearingen and husband, Mark, of Wales and Linda Hobart and husband, Dee, of West Forks.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Gus will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
