DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are looking for someone who may have videotaped the new plaque unveiling at the Vietnam Memorial Bridge in Auburn on Sunday, Aug. 10. We would like to have a copy for the American Legion archives.

Please contact me. Thank you. — Dan St. Pierre, commander of the William J. Rogers Post 153, Auburn, 207-576-7366, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with the Sun Journal photographers, but they didn’t shoot that event.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My computer is still operating with Windows XP. For many months, even before the Windows XP support ended, I have had a problem when trying to view Facebook. It is extremely slow and often seems to freeze, with the caption that it is “Not Responding.”

Everything else seems to run as usual. Would you have any thoughts about the cause of the problem? Thank you. — No Name via email

ANSWER: It is impossible to diagnose a computer problem from a distance, but Sun Spots thinks that it is probably the age and capability of your computer that is causing your problems, not the operating system (Windows XP).

The growing popularity of posting videos and other interactive features on Facebook has added to its computer power requirements.

Sun Spots has noted that in her feed it is not uncommon to have several videos up at once. They use a great deal of memory and slow up even Sun Spots’ computer, which is fairly new.

Still, it’s hard to say that is the problem for sure without knowing more about your computer and what programs you use. You really need someone hands-on.

You might try rebooting to clear the computer’s memory and then closing all other programs when you are on Facebook so it can have all the memory available.

Or you could upgrade to a new computer?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I understand that you have a list of shoe repair shops in the region, but that there is now an establishment in the Lewiston area. Can you provide those names and numbers, please? — No Name via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many thanks for responding to my query about the origins of Lake Shore Drive (Sept. 1) so quickly.

I just received a call from a lady in Greene who once lived in my house and was a relative of Leslie Wight, who knew all the history of north Auburn. She received all of Leslie’s research documents after Leslie’s demise.

She is coming to my house on Thursday. Again, many thanks. Loads of people read Sun Spots regularly, as I have discovered. It’s a great feature of the Sun Journal by you. Congratulations. — William B. Lewis
