BUCKFIELD — Selectmen on Tuesday night awarded the contract for a wheeler truck to Whited Peterbilt for $109,000 and approved the purchase of plow gear and a body from Messer Truck Equipment for $70,925.
Road Foreman Tyler Belanger told Town Manager Cindy Dunn the Peterbilt was the Mercedes-Benz of trucks and should serve the town for 20 to 25 years with proper maintenance.
In other business, Dunn said construction of the fire/rescue station is on budget and the bays should be ready Nov. 11.
Two people were appointed to the Community Day Committee, making a total of four members. Gloria Hall was appointed to a two-year term and Donna Alexander to a three-year term.
“Maybe next year we will have Community Days again. We could always use more people,” Dunn said.
Board Chairman Martha Catevenis said she had a call about traffic stalled on the bridge while the Rescue Department was collecting donations with buckets. She said she would research the legality of the fundraisers. The issue was tabled.
Resident Judy Berg brought up the poor acoustics in the Buckfield Junior-Senior High School gym, which made it very difficult to hear at the special town meeting. There were no suggestions.
