100 years ago, 1914
Just at this time everybody is interested in things military and the management of the Maine State fair realizing this has arranged to present a series of exhibition drills on Monday, Labor Day, on the track in front of the grandstand. These drills will be by the 8th Co. Coast Artillery Corps, National Guard, State of Maine, Capt. E. A. Reed commanding. This is one of the crack companies of the Maine coast artillery corps and the drills which it will present that day will be well worth watching.

50 years ago, 1964
For the first time in the history of the International Snowshoe Congress, the International Snowshoe Committee will hold its annual meeting outside Canada. The meeting will he held this weekend at Lewiston with all the ceremony and festivities usually associated with that organization. The committee, composed of ten Canadians and ten Americans, will meet Saturday afternoon in an open, informal meeting with all snowshoers who want to be present at the Pastime Club in Lewiston.

25 years ago, 1989
An extensive trail restoration and erosion control project recently completed in the Thorncrag Wildlife Sanctuary in Lewiston may qualify for a national award, soil conservation officials said Friday. The $10,000 project was jointly funded by the federal Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the Stanton Bird Club, which owns the sanctuary. Pauline Pare, district conservationist for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Lewiston, said the Thorncrag project is a model public-private erosion control effort She added that it will be nominated for a federal Take Pride in America Award.
