LEWISTON — State police arrested 35-year-old Wayne King of Waldoboro on Tuesday night after a chase earlier in the day in Durham, according to a news release.

Kings is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.

He was arrested on warrants for not paying fines and for a probation violation not related to the chase, the statement said. He was found hiding in a storage area of a Lewiston apartment house, but the sport utility vehicle he had been driving has not been found.

On Tuesday, state police were involved in chasing of a 1999 purple Chevrolet Tracker they believed was being driven by Edwin Duquette, based on the vehicle registration information. A trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle on Route 136 in Durham, according to state police. The vehicle nearly struck a pair of flaggers at a construction site and was last seen heading into Pownal.

When Duquette saw his photo on Facebook and in news reports he called police to report that he recently sold the SUV to someone who took the license plates at the time of sale, the news release said.

Police believe King was driving the SUV.

Anyone with information about the missing SUV is asked to call state police at 657-3030.
