LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. The center’s Heritage Cafe will be serving sauteed chicken with seasonal vegetables, rice and cake. The cost of the meal is $8 per person. After the meal, Bob Mathieu and Jean Julien will provide the entertainment.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Attendees may contact the center office for reservations at 207-783-1585; leave a message or the office hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m.

La Rencontre is not restricted to French-speakers or even those of Franco descent. All are welcome to attend this fun monthly meal and event.

Mathieu is a well-known musician in the community. In his early years he played in a band with Ray Pinette, and was one of the original members of the Royal Knights. A few years later he joined the very popular band The Fascinations with Ray Chouinard and Roger Bouffard which played for dances, weddings and many special occasions. Bob has participated in plays with the St. Dom’s Family Theatre and Community Little Theatre. He is presently a member of the Prince of Peace Parish Holy Family choir.

Mathieu met his Canadian friend Jean Julien while vacationing in Florida. Music has been Julien’s life, having been the organist at the Forum for the Montreal Canadians for 14 years. He has entertained on cruise ships, had a musical TV program in Sherbrook and played with many musicians in Canada. In addition to his musical talents “John” received a lifetime award from Yamaha Keyboard Division for owning a dealership 30 years.

The musical program will include songs from the ’40s, ’50s and more.
