LIVERMORE — Police said a Lewiston man was arrested Thursday, charged with credit card fraud that cost one victim at least $4,000.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Justin Chiaravelotti, 22, on a charge of theft by deception and on a warrant charging theft by unauthorized taking, according to a news release.
On Wednesday, sheriff’s officials received a report from a Livermore resident who said they were a victim of credit card fraud. When police began to investigate, they discovered three additional victims of the same scheme.
Police did not elaborate on how the fraud was committed.
Police got a search warrant for Chiaravelotti’s home at 401 College St. in Lewiston where they recovered a “large number” of fraudulent credit cards as well as equipment to manufacture credit cards and a large amount of cash, the release said.
Chiaravelotti was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he was being held Friday on $20,000 bail. He is expected to be arraigned early next week.
