Fun with Roman numerals
RUMFORD — At the end of a long day Tuesday, Chris Brennick had trouble with Roman numerals while co-chairing the Charter Commission meeting.
The commission is tasked with going through the town charter and making revisions to bring before voters. All 25 articles of the 1951 document are denoted by Roman numerals.
Brennick, who reads each article and section into the record before the commission considers revisions, misread Article XVIII as XXVIII, prompting a humorous outcry from fellow members when he said, “Article 28” instead of “Article 18.”
Brennick apologized for his error.
Amid laughter, commission member Eric Davis replied, “I hope to live as long as C (100).”
