Recently, I received notice that the Buckfield water company — Buckfield Village Corp. — is holding a special town meeting on Sept. 10 to vote for an assessor and to vote on a proposal to have the customers of the water company donate $40,000 for the purpose of installing a sprinkler system in the new Buckfield rescue/fire station.
The building contractor had told residents the sprinkler system was not needed, so that amount was deducted from the construction cost of the building.
If the water company has an extra $40,000 hanging around, it should be used to upgrade the town’s ancient water system, not spent to install a sprinkler system that evidently is not needed.
I hope all Buckfield residents will make their voices heard and customers of the water company vote against the proposal.
