As voters in the Rumford area prepare to cast their ballots, I hope they will not only consider the party affiliation that appears next to each name on the ballot but, more importantly, consider which candidates have been faithfully serving the area for years and which names have suddenly appeared on the ballot out of nowhere.

State Sen. John Patrick and State Rep. Matt Peterson are instantly recognized throughout the area because they have been serving their fellow citizens in varying capacities for decades. These two Democratic incumbents have stayed in touch with their roots and their constituents, regardless of party affiliation, to be up-to-date on the will of the people and their needs.

I will be voting for Patrick and Peterson, as well as encouraging my fellow Rumford area residents to do the same, whether voting absentee or at the polls on Election Day.

Candice Anne Casey, Rumford, chairwoman, Rumford GOP Municipal Committee
