RUMFORD —Edna M. Fickett, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 11, shortly after being admitted to the Rumford Hospital following a period of declining health at her home in Rumford.

She was born in Mexico on March 11, 1926, to Eli S. and Minnie (Richard) Desroches of Mexico, the sixth of eight brothers and sisters. She was married in 1947 to Harold D. Fickett Jr., who predeceased her in July 2005. She is survived by four children, Daniel Fickett of Miami, Fla., and East Andover, James Fickett and wife, Donna, of Waterford, Nancy Fickett of Rumford and Roxbury Pond, and Sandra Fickett of Portland and Roxbury Pond.

A lifelong resident of Mexico and Rumford, Edna was a wonderful and treasured mother; a much-loved grandmother to James Fickett Jr. and wife, Brenda, Eric Fickett, Jon Fickett and wife, Heather, Angela Brooks, and Alan Brooks; and a loving great-grandmother to Abigail Fickett, Sophia Fickett and Derrick Brooks.

She was also well-known and well-loved by her many nieces, nephews, friends and her fellow bowlers at Oxford Lanes. Edna always enjoyed making new friends, playing cards, refinishing furniture, doing needlework, going for rides and spending time with her family. She especially treasured her recent summers with family at Roxbury Pond, where she continued to make new friends.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Irene Moreau, Arthur Desroches, Raymond Desroches, Theresa Prevost Lange, Norman Desroches and Eli Desroches Jr.; and is survived by her youngest brother, Edward (Ned) Desroches of Peru.

A Catholic Mass to honor her long life and beautiful spirit is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Parish of the Holy Savior Church in Rumford. A private burial for family members will immediately follow at Demerritt Cemetery in Peru.
