1953 – 2014
BOSTON — Dana F. Hotham, 61, of Hebron Station Road, Hebron died of HLH Disease on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital with his sister, Deb, brother-in-law, Rick Hemond and friend, Serae Hemond by his side.
Born in Lewiston on June 1, 1953, a son of Don and Ernestine Jones Hotham, he graduated from Edward Little High School with the Class of 1971 and CMVTI in 1973, and then he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Dana was a carpenter by trade running two of his own businesses, Thumb Bangers and Homeflyers. In his younger days, he worked at Al’s Sports Center selling skis and mounting bindings in the winter, and he was a Mercury outboard motor tech in the summer. He also worked for Boulay’s Construction and at Kieser’s as head of maintenance. Dana was also a professional ski instructor and taught at Sunday River.
He enjoyed a lot of things, including extreme skiing out west, Canada, hot air ballooning here, Canada and Austria. ATV riding with his friends and family, water skiing, fishing, watching NASCAR racing, getting together with friends and family at his home for no special occasion and working with his hands building things. He also enjoyed the peaceful solitude of his pond.
He will be remembered for his LAUGH, smile and interestingly dry sense of humor.
Dana is survived by his sister, Deb and husband, Rick Hemond, of Minot; a niece, Dawn (Hemond) Watts and her son Jack; a nephew, Rob Hemond and his wife, Tammy, and their children, Danica, Bailey, Nathan, Libbie and Lyndsy.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston that took care of him, especially his nurse Maria in the Palliative Care Unit. She took compassionate care of all of us there with Dana in his last hours.
In line with Dana’s wishes, the family would appreciate everyone coming for visitation and the funeral to wear casual clothing.
