Masonic supper on Sept. 20

WILTON — On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., there will be a public Masonic supper at the Harland M. Harnden Masonic Hall, 70 Bryant Road in East Wilton, to benefit the Building Fund.

The menu will be barbecue chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, rolls, strawberry shortcake and beverages.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for those under the age of 12. For more information, call 778-2354.

Author Doug Dunlap in New Vineyard

NEW VINEYARD — The New Vineyard Public Library will host author Doug Dunlap at their fourth annual “Local Author’s Night” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in the library community room.

Dunlap resides in Farmington and is a registered Maine guide. In addition to his regular column in the Franklin Journal, “Foot and Paddle,” he has now written the first in a series of outdoor guide books, “Day Hiking in the Western Mountains of Maine.”

The book divides 18 hikes into three parts: the Carrabassett Valley, Rangeley and Weld. Each hike includes a personal essay of his experience along with descriptions, elevation and length, etc.

The event is open to the public and will include a talk by Dunlap followed by a question and answer period; book sale and signing; refreshments and a free raffle ticket for each attendee.

New classes at SAD 52 Adult Ed

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education is offering a variety of fall classes.

Sign up for Watercolor Paint Party on Sept. 23 to enjoy a fun and relaxing night of painting. Receive step-by-step instructions and complete a 5×7 painting in one night. No experience is required and all supplies are included.

Register for GPS, Map & Compass Basics to receive information and skills to understand and use maps, compass and a GPS in the field. Students will need a compass for this class.

Explore district school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans and assertive discipline in a one-night class on Sept. 25. This free substitute training course is one step in the sub teacher application process. A high school diploma is required, college degree preferred. Registration is required. Call 225-1010.
