PORTLAND — House Speaker John Boehner is visiting Maine next week to raise money for 2nd Congressional District Republican candidate Bruce Poliquin.
Poliquin Finance Director Jessica Corbett said that Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, will host a closed-door fundraiser on Sept. 25. She declined to provide further details.
The former state treasurer and businessman is squaring off against Democratic state senator Emily Cain in November. Democrats have held the seat in the vast, rural northern Maine district for nearly two decades.
Poliquin, who defeated moderate Republican Kevin Raye in the June primary, is focusing his campaign on cutting taxes, government spending and energy costs, and overhauling welfare.
