WILTON — A field hockey round robin Sunday will raise funds for breast cancer and children’s cancer research.

The Wilton Field Hockey Team will host the Field Hockey Frenzy starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at Kineowatha Park, coach Lindsay Boothby said. A raffle of items and sales of T-shirts and homemade refreshments are planned, she said.

The team will also take donations for the Play for The Cure, she said.

Everyone is welcome to watch teams from around the area, she said. There is no admission charge. Each game will last a half hour.

The local team of nine, grades three to six, practices Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kineowatha Park. The season continues through the week of Oct. 14, she said.

The girls play teams from Farmington, AYS from Jay and Livermore Falls, Skowhegan, Gardner, Turner and Augusta.

This is the second year Boothby, of East Dixfield, has coached the team sponsored by Wilton Recreation Department, she said. She played field hockey through middle and high school and became interested in this team because of her niece, she said.

Boothby was looking for something interesting to do with the girls when she found the Play for the Cure website. Parents were really good about joining and helping with the event, she said.
