LIVERMORE FALLS — Town Manager Kristal Flagg stressed Tuesday that there is no smoking, alcohol or illegal drug use allowed on the town’s Recreation Field.

Flagg told selectmen she saw a group of men drinking alcohol with gas grills set up on the basketball court, which is also not allowed.

She had a sign put up prohibiting the conduct.

“You can’t sit on a swing and drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes,” she said.

Flagg also reminded residents that no black or green bags are allowed at the Transfer Station. Clear bags are accepted.

In another matter, sisters and residents Merry Carver and Melissa Crocker said they have bought a little plaque to honor Geneva Hodgkins at Union Park. The plaque reads “Geneva’s Garden.”

Hodgkins adopted Union Park and had restored it before she died in October 2008. She had also created a garden there. Selectmen had renamed the park in 2008, Geneva Hodgkins Memorial Garden in honor of her.

Residents restored the name to Union Park in June. The land for the park was donated in honor of Union soldiers from the Civil War.

Selectmen also waived a $10 a week fee for the Girl Scouts to use the auditorium at the Treat Memorial Library.

The group requested to use the Fire Station on Thursday nights instead of paying for the library room, but selectmen were concerned about what would happen if there were a fire or another emergency.
