As co-chairman of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, I have spent the past two years working closely with Rep. Wayne Werts. During that time, Werts earned the respect of his colleagues from both parties because of the way he approaches his job. The questions he asks are thoughtful, and whenever it’s time to debate, he is a gentleman about it and is always civil.
I have been especially impressed by his willingness to fight for a better deal for Lewiston-Auburn area commuters who use the Maine Turnpike. Toll fairness is a very important issue for Rep. Werts, and I know that it’s one he wants to keep working on — along with improving access to rail and the economic development opportunities that would come with it.
Rep. Werts is serving both Auburn and Lewiston well, and his strong work ethic and no-nonsense style are strong assets for the Maine Legislature.
