JAY — Nicole Hamblin took a rebound and slipped the ball to Alexis Bessey who promptly punched in the game-winning goal 3:48 into overtime to give Spruce Mountain a 2-1 victory over Oceanside in a field hockey game Thursday.
Kaylee LeClerc scored off a penalty stroke in the first half, giving the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the first half. Oceanside (5-10 came back and tied it up when MaKayla Van Blarcom scored an unassisted goal in the second half.
Spruce Mountain (4-1) goalie Grace Ryan made 10 saves and put a stop to several key breakaways.
Leavitt 0, Winslow 0 (2OT)
WINSLOW — Leavitt and Winslow were evenly matched as they battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie in field hockey action Thursday afternoon.
Chantel Eells, Kaitlyn DeBlois and Addie Gagnon provided superb defense for the Hornets (4-1-1) by turning away several scoring opportunities.
Emma Martineau, Alivia Bubier and Alana Hartford prevented much of the Black Raiders’ (5-0-1) attack in midfield for Leavitt.
Goalie Ashley Kelley made two saves for Leavitt, while goalie Delaney Wood stopped five for Winslow.
Lawrence 6, Edward Little 0
LAWRENCE — Domi Lewis and Hallee Parlin clanged home a pair of goals each and Lauren Watson added a goal and two assists to lead unbeaten Lawrence past Edward Little 6-0 in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
Lilla Tilton-Flood had the other goal for the Bulldogs (7-0), while Emily Taylor turned back eight shots for the shutout.
Edward Little (3-3-1) keeper Danica Nadeau was outstanding between the pipes, stopping 26 shots in the loss.
Girls’ soccer
Yarmouth 6, Poland 0
YARMOUTH — Katie Clemmer and Hannah Corey each scored two goals as Yarmouth dropped Poland with a 6-0 victory in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.
Sara D’Appolonia and Emma Tores also scored goals for the Clippers.
Rangeley 3, Buckfield 2
BUCKFIELD — Michaela Shorey scored the game-winning goal on a Taylor Esty feed in overtime, lifting Rangeley to a 3-2 victory over Buckfield in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.
Buckfield (2-1-1) held a 2-1 lead in the first half thanks to goals by Bri Damon and Ashley Campbell, with Nadia Wesley being credited with assists on both goals.
But the Lakers (3-1) tied it up thanks to goals by Mary Page-Swiney and Blake Morin, who scored on a penalty kick.
Oak Hill 6, Winthrop 0
WINTHROP — Bree Ivy and Halee Lair scored two goals apiece as Oak Hill cruised to a 6-0 victory over Winthrop in girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Brooke Taylor provided keeper duties for the Ramblers, while goalie Anna Dodge earned the win in net for the Raiders.
Mt. Blue 1, Brewer 1
FARMINGTON — Junior defensman Sierra Hoes kicked an 18-yard shot that hit off the top crossbar and into the cage with 5:23 remaining in regulation to score the equalizer and Mt. Blue and Brewer played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in KVAC girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Sophomore Gretchen Wright collected the first goal of the contest at 16:51 of the second half for the Witches (4-0-1).
Goalie Mikayla Henderson made 12 saves for Brewer, while goalie Addie Schanz prevented 16 to earn the win in net for the Cougars (2-1-2).
Monmouth 5, Dirigo 0
MONMOUTH — Junior forward Sidney Wilson notched a hat trick as Monmouth galloped to a 5-0 victory over Dirigo in MVC girls’ soccer action Thursday.
The Mustangs (5-0) jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Sophomore forward Haley Fletcher accounted for the other two tallies by Monmouth.
Goalie Mariah Lafleur made 20 saves for the Cougars (2-3), while goalie Mikayla Cameron turned back seven shots to earn the win in net for Monmouth.
St. Dom’s 8, Telstar 0
BETHEL — Faith Grady and Caroline Gastonguay fired a pair of shots each past Telstar keeper Tehya Johnson on Thursday as St. Dom’s cruised to an 8-0 win over the Rebels.
Hailey Eason, Kym Johnson and Samm Ladd also scored for the Saints (4-1), while Grady, Conner and Madison Leslie each picked up assists. Nicole Robitaille stopped all three shots on the cage for the shutout.
Johnson was stout for the Rebels (0-5), stopping eight shots.
Boys’ soccer
Buckfield 7, Rangeley 0
RANGELEY — Jon Randolph and Ethan Jackson scored two goals each as Buckfield waltzed to a 7-0 victory over Rangeley in boys’ soccer action Thursday.
Randolph scored the first goal five minutes into the game with a shot from 18-yards out for the Bucks. Buckfield outshot the Lakers 19-3.
Goalie Leo Perez made 20 saves for Rangeley, while goalie Calvin Downey stopped six shots to earn the win in net for Buckfield.
Gray-New Gloucester 2, Freeport 0
GRAY — Liam Stewart scored the game-winning goal as Gray-New Gloucester defeated Freeport 2-0 in boys’ soccer on Thursday. His goal was set up by Dario Arnet.
Tyler St. Pierre arranged Josiah Carter’s goal in the second half as the Patriots outshot the Falcons 15-6.
John-Henry Villanueva made four saves for Gray-New Gloucester (2-2) while Brendan Quails stopped nine shots for Freeport (0-4-1).
