DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Public Theatre is currently looking for people to hang posters on any of the following poster routes: Auburn, Falmouth-Yarmouth, Greene-Leeds, Poland-Poland Spring, Portland and Sabattus.

Each poster route person will receive one or two free tickets to each production they poster (depending on the number of posters hung per route).

The Public Theatre is also looking for a donation of a vacuum cleaner or any furniture (including lamps) to help refresh our actor’s house. As our actors usually come from New York, we try to make their stay in Lewiston-Auburn as comfortable as possible.

To learn more about additional volunteer opportunities, the Public Theatre will be hosting a volunteer party from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the theatre, located at 31 Maple St.

If you are interested in postering, ushering, bulk mailing, working backstage as a crew member, being on the Father-Daughter Valentine Ball Committee or the Silent Action Committee in the spring, or offering a skill or service you think would be helpful to our organization, please call us at 207-782-2211 or email us at info@thepublictheatre.org. — Janet Mitchko, co-artistic director, www.thepublictheatre.org

The Boys & Girls Club is seeking donations of the following items to be used as props for its haunted house: nursing or doctor gear, any hospital wear, long-sleeved white shirts, guard or police dress, belts, pajamas and bathrobes for men and women. Donated items will be greatly appreciated but not be able to be returned.

Donations can be left at the Boys & Girls Club, 43 Second St., Auburn. For more information, call me at 207-320-1969. Thank you all for your help! — Kathy, chickfarma@yahoo.com

ANSWER: For readers who thought Kathy didn’t know how to spell Halloween and/or that Sun Spots was falling down on the job, it turns out the altered spelling is intentional. Kathy emailed: “Yes, it is Hello-ween! We started this event as a way for residents of the surrounding areas to come to the New Auburn village, visit our merchants and say hello.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: As most of your readers know, there continues to be a large need for food assistance in our local communities. Food pantries no longer just help the homeless or unemployed.

We provide food to more than 350 men, women and children every week. Many have at least one member in their household that works. We are seeing more and more disabled veterans and seniors, trying to survive on Social Security.

During the past several months we have had a number of fundraising activities to raise money for our pantry. I’m writing to let our community know that we are so grateful for the tremendous support we have received.

Many individuals and businesses have provided assistance. Dr. Rosemarie Sheline and Mechanics Savings Bank have answered our call many times with generous donations over the past several years. Many small businesses, too many to name, donated items or gift cards for our silent auction and matching grant campaign.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish recently made a substantial donation and supports us with with prayer since the closing of St. Louis food pantry that provided food support for many years in the Auburn community. We can’t forget the many individuals who have also provided financial support. A sincere thank-you to all of you. — Pamela Blake-Strout, Auburn Seventh Day Adventist Food Pantry, 207-998-5238
