LEWISTON — Join the YWCA Conditioning Swim. This class is great for high school and middle school students, triathletes as well as competitive swimmers looking to improve their swimming skills or just get exercise.

This swim class is designed to build up swimmers’ endurance and work on specific skills to prepare swimmers for triathlons, high school swim team or those just looking to get a great workout.

Each class will be a coached workout and will build on specific drill from each class to improve swimming strokes and efficiency.

Participants must be able to swim continual laps.

This class will begin the week of Sept. 23 and run through Nov. 13, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

The YWCA is proud to announce Tiger Sharks Swim Team and that it is a member of USA swimming and Maine swimming. This is a great opportunity for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 that love to swim and are interested in a more competitive environment.

They will learn the basic fundamentals of competitive strokes and being part of a team in a positive and encouraging environment. Coaches will focus on stroke development, increasing endurance, nutrition and dry land conditioning.

In order to build team spirit, all members will practice at the same time. To enhance learning and promote safety, swimmers will be placed in lanes with others of the same ability and speed.

It is strongly recommended that participants attend three practices a week.

To join, youth must be able to swim one length (25 yards) of pool without stopping on front and back.

The team will participate in four USA swim meets. Tiger Sharks Swim team will begin the week of Oct. 6 and continue through April 2.
