JAY — Two families escaped a fire Monday morning at 576 Franklin Road, acting fire Chief Mike Booker said.
The fire started in a second-floor office at a house owned by Adam and Ali Clark, Booker said. The cause was electrical.
Approximately 20 firefighters from Jay, Livermore Falls and Wilton, along with a Farmington rapid-response team, contained the fire to a room at the rear of the house.
The office room and contents were destroyed. There was some smoke and water damage to the remainder of the second floor, he said.
The couple and their two children live on the main floors, and their in-laws live in an basement apartment, he said.
The fire was reported at 5:14 a.m.
The families will be staying with relatives until the damaged area is cleaned up.
The couple had insurance.
