LEWISTON — Investigators continued Thursday to search for the cause of a fire on Birch Street that left two dozen tenants homeless Tuesday.

Fire Inspector Paul Ouellette said he and investigators from the Maine Office of the State Fire Marshal were combing through rubble for clues on what sparked the 7 p.m. blaze at 101 Birch St.

The four-story building had 17 units, but not all were occupied, police said. Flames were spotted coming from the rear of the building and two porches.

No injuries were reported.
