DEAR SUN SPOTS: I enjoy your column every day.
I’m unable to find denture adhesive powder. I don’t like the cream. — No Name, No Town
ANSWER: What Sun Spots thought would be a simple question turned out to be far more complicated.
A search online showed many outlets for the powder, but when she clicked on them, many (Walmart, for example) showed as out of stock.
The CVS website said it had powder, but when she called the store in Auburn, the nice young manager said they had been having trouble finding some products and that currently she can’t even order the powder.
From further online sleuthing it appears that Poligrip is the product in short supply, while Fixodent is still available. And according to Hannaford.com is available in its stores.
Sun Spots called to verify, and it is indeed in your local Hannaford. If you don’t see it or any other product in your store, ask at customer service if they can get it for you.
Fixodent powder is also available online at cvs.com, amazon.com, drugstore.com and many others.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: A while back you printed two companies who helped seniors with repairs or needed work on their homes. Could you print them again?
I saw your column about bats in homes. Back around 1999 or 2000 I also had bats. Look out for the bugs that come with them. I had to ask an exterminator to find out they weren’t bedbugs.
I don’t know if this man is still doing this, but he was great: Richard Burton Jr. of Maine Animal Damage Control. — Bonnie, Auburn
ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses you are looking for her list of handymen? There are currently four in her Rolodex:
* Dean Hinkley, Wales, 375-6163
* Bertrand St.Amand, Auburn, 207-783-6431
* Dennis Despins, Lewiston, 207-576-7744
* Champagne Construction, Auburn, wood repairs/remodels of all kinds, fully insured, [email protected], 207-782-3667
As for the bat bugs, Wikipedia says Bonnie is right about these pests, which live on bats and can also infest your home.
It is unlikely to be an issue if you just have an occasional bat, but if you have bats living in your home, you may have their “friends” as well.
They are very similar to bedbugs and may be their ancestors.
As for Burton, Sun Spots found this information for him: Richard Burton, animal wildlife control agent, 14 Scribner Blvd., Lewiston, 207-212-0437, [email protected].
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I live at Roak Block in Auburn, and we are looking for some artificial Christmas trees for our shared rooms. We got rid of ours last year as they fell apart. Thank you for any help. — Leta Richards, [email protected]
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have completed sorting out all the French sheet music at the Franco Center and will be donating it to the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine.
The Franco Center cannot keep the sheet music due to storage issues. In sorting out this material, I now have a stack of music books on piano instruction, exercises and classical sheet music books as well as a supply of older popular song sheet music.
I would like for someone who can use this sheet music to have it. I would not like to see it go to a landfill. If interested, please contact me at 207-784-2061 and I will make arrangements with you to go to the Franco Center to pick up the music. Thank you, Sun Spots. — Nel Meservier, [email protected]
ANSWER: Whatever sheet music doesn’t get taken could probably be recycled, slightly better than the landfill.
GOOD MORNING, SUN SPOTS! Please add my information to your contact list for seat weavers. I am a second-generation seat weaver, having learned the craft from my mother.
People interested in having their chairs reworked can contact me either by email ([email protected]) or by phone (207-783-1935). Thank you for all you do to keep our community connected. — Susan Ference, Auburn
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the metal ice cube trays being sought, I just donated four trays to the Goodwill store in Auburn in July and August. — Reader via email
