1925 – 2014

LEWISTON — Victor Fortin, 89, a resident of Albert St., Lewiston, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.

He was born in St. Victor, Quebec, on Aug. 11, 1925, the son of Napoleon and Leocadie (Poulin) Fortin.

In his early years, Victor worked as a woodsman in his native Canada and in the U.S. before immigrating with his wife, the former Marguerite Cliche, and together raised their family in Lewiston.

While in Lewiston, he was employed in the local shoe industry and retired from Lepage Bakery. In his spare time, he was an avid card player. Victor was also a man of deep faith and was a long time member of Holy Cross Church.

Survivors include one son, Michael Fortin and wife, Marian, of Wilbraham, Mass.; one daughter, Lillian Martin and husband, David, of Lewiston; one brother, Gaetan Fortin of St. Alfred, Quebec; and two sisters, Therese Doyon and Marielle Rodrigue, both of Auburn.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s ICU for the wonderful, loving care they gave our Dad during his last days, in particular, Lindsay, Kayla, Jen and Celine, as well as Dr. Bandara.
