Elks scholarships available

RUMFORD — The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship and Elks Legacy Award information has been distributed to the Guidance Offices at Mountain Valley, Dirigo and Telstar high schools and Gold Academy for seniors who wish to further their education at a four-year college or university.

Home-schooled students whose legal residences are within the towns comprising the school districts mentioned above and who will complete their secondary education this academic year are eligible to apply.

Red Hat Mommas to meet Oct. 23

DIXFIELD — On Sept. 27, 16 Red Hat Mommas of Western Maine enjoyed an outing at Sunday River, riding the Chondola and enjoying the scenery, followed by a meal at the S. S. Milton Restaurant in Bethel.

Three birthdays were celebrated and the teapot exchange was made.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, where pumpkin carving and farm tours will be available for those interested. Pay on your own.

Landowner Appreciation, public supper

ANDOVER — The Sno Valley Sno-Goers snowmobile club will hold their annual Landowner Appreciation and public supper from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Andover Congregational Church.

The menu will be ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and homemade desserts. Landowners are the club’s guests. Prices for the public are $8 for adults, $5 for children and no charge for under 5 years old.

Rotary’s Oktoberfest Craft Fair

RUMFORD — The River Valley Rotary Club’s 21st annual Oktoberfest Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Hope Association.

There will be a variety of crafters offering jewelry, homemade crafts, baked goods and a multitude of other merchandise. There will be a cookie walk and the Rotary Club will also have a book fair.

Book, bake sale at Rumford Library

RUMFORD — Friends of the Rumford Library will hold a book and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, and again on Monday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Public Room of the library.

All books are free. “Shoppers” can fill a bag with books, videos and CDs and make a donation to the Friends.

Baked goods will be priced individually.
