LEWISTON— Area residents have made donations to help with the care of the thousands of unwanted animals the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society helps each year.
GAHS provides a safe haven for more than 4,200 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area per year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of concerned citizens.

- On July 17, Kaci VerSluis of Sabattus, a fourth-grade student at Carrie Ricker School, asked for donations for the pets in lieu of gifts for her ninth birthday.

- On Aug. 5, Hannah Dube of Lewiston presented GAHS with the proceeds from the auctioning of her painting. The fourth-grade student at McMahon Elementary School donated $60.

- Thanks to staff at Camden National Bank in Lewiston, on July 24 the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society was presented with a donation of pet food, treats and litter.
