1949 – 2014
AUBURN — Stanley R. Groleau, 65, of 535 Town Farm Road in Hartford, died Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, following a short illness.
He was born in Lewiston on March 14, 1949, a son of the late Laureat G. and Olivette (Boulette) Groleau and his stepmother, Deseria Lefebvre. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1967.
During high school, he was a member of the swim team and the Junior Olympic Team, having been awarded many medals for his achievements. He was the freestyle swim champion for the state of Maine. Following high school, he attended Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, Neb., and then attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
He was employed as an electrician for 38 years at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, until his retirement in 2012.
Being an avid outdoorsman, Stan the Man enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, guns, swimming, storytelling, traveling, riding his Harley, listening to blues music, sunset-watching and living off the land. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Kaiden.
Stan was known for his beard and his tan, which he took very much pride in.
One of his favorite quotes that Stan lived by was, “If you don’t believe in revenge, you’ve never lost anything worth having.”
He is survived by one son, Ahren Groleau and his wife, Karen, of Winthrop; one daughter, Alyssa Groleau, of Lewiston; one grandson, Kaiden Groleau, of Winthrop; his girlfriend of 14 years, Mary Dugans, of Standish; his former wife, Sandra Groleau, of Lewiston; one brother, Paul Groleau, of Greene; a stepsister, Arlene Brunson, of Arizona; and many cousins and extended family.
He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Groleau.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s C2 unit for the wonderful care they gave Stan.
