Rumford fair rescheduled

RUMFORD — The food craft fair that was scheduled for Oct. 18 at the American Legion Post 24, 184 Congress St., has been moved to Sunday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Auxiliary.

American Legion brunch is Sunday

AUBURN — The William J. Rogers American Legion Post 153 will host Sunday morning brunch on Oct. 19, at the post from 8 to 10 a.m., or when food runs out.

The post is at 71 South Main St., New Auburn. For more information, call 207-782-1118. The cost is $7 for adults, and $4 for children under 12. The public is invited.

Forum on ‘Aging in Place’

AUGUSTA — UMA Senior College and the UMA College of Arts and Sciences is hosting its next Forum on the Future, Home Adaptation for “Aging in Place,” part of a series on Aging in Place, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at UMA’s Jewett Hall Auditorium.

The panelists include an architect who specializes in accessible universal design and a local company that provides assistive technology for seniors. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

‘Maine Kitchen’ series stars with wild game

FALMOUTH — University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s yearlong monthly workshop series “From Scratch: Your Maine Kitchen” kicks off Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the UMaine Extension Cumberland County office, 75 Clearwater Drive.

At the first workshop, “From the Maine Wild,” Black Fly Stew cookbook author Kate Gooding will discuss cooking wild game, including venison, moose and goose. She will prepare “Burgundian Beaver Stew,” which participants can sample. UMaine Extension Master Food Preserver Karyn Small will give tips on best food preservation practices for wild game.

Workshops scheduled through February include: “Gifts from the Maine Kitchen,” with Kate McCarty, Dec. 6; “Making Sourdough Bread at Home,” with Sheri Fistal, Jan. 17; and “Maine Seafood and Edible Seaweed,” Feb. 21.

Fee for the Nov. 15 workshop is $40 per person; proceeds benefit the UMaine Extension Nutrition Program in Cumberland County. Attendees will receive Cabela’s coupons and be entered to receive gift cards from Cabela’s. Register online at umaine.edu/cumberland/programs/from-scratch-your-maine-kitchen.
