BRIDGTON — Police have identified the passengers who died in Sunday night’s single-car crash on Route 302 as a Gorham teenager and a Portland man.

Police Chief Kevin L. Schofield said Monday afternoon that 16-year-old Brenden Denis of Gorham and 35-year-old Eric S. Morey of Portland were killed when a car being driven south near the Naples town line crashed at 5:50 p.m.

According to Schofield, preliminary investigation indicates that the car, driven by Candice L. Tucker, 35, of Gorham, was passing other cars at high speed when it went off the road and struck several trees.

Denis and Morey were pronounced dead at the scene. Tucker was treated for minor injuries at Bridgton Hospital.

The preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed was a contributing factor to the crash, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgton Police Department and crash reconstruction specialists from the Cumberland County Sherriff’s Department.
