PORTLAND — Sales of existing Maine homes rose 6.58 percent last month.

The Portland Press Herald reports the median sales price in the state was $175,000 for September. That was a 1.16 percent increase from a year ago. September saw 1,393 homes sold.

Maine home sales for July, August and September climbed 3.85 percent from the previous year. The biggest increase in sales took place in Somerset County. The highest number of homes sold in York County.

Nationwide home sales fell 1.9 percent while the national median sales price rose 5.9 percent to $210,300. Northeast sales dipped 1.4 percent and the regional median sales price increased 4.8 percent to $249,800.
