BATH— ArtVan recently received a $10,000 grant from Elmina B. Sewall Foundation of Freeport. This grant will support ongoing art programming in the core neighborhoods that ArtVan works with in Bath, Brunswick, Lewiston and Auburn.

Additionally, the grant will support capacity building initiatives within the organization.

“We are grateful to the Sewall Foundation for awarding us this grant,” said Jamie Silvestri, executive director and founder of ArtVan. “We are particularly excited about the capacity building portion of the grant; we intend to strategize how to amplify our impact through strengthening our services and operations with this money.”

ArtVan is a mobile arts therapy program that provides programming to children, teens and adults who have the least amount of social services, after-school programs and summer activities available to them. Founded in 2004, ArtVan makes the arts accessible to clients by bringing supplies directly to the community. During a typical ArtVan program session, clients have the opportunities to safely communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas into tangible works of art.

ArtVan also recently received a $10,000 grant from the Quimby Family Foundation of Portland to help fund programs, and a $10,000 grant from the Kay E. Dopp Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to hire an operations and development director.
