Wendell was a lifelong member in the Grange and the VFW in Rumford. For many years, Wendell was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Ellis River Cemetery Association, the Rumford Historical Society and the Rumford Point Congregational Church. He also enjoyed working with his tractor to plow gardens for people.
