1930 – 2014

MANSFIELD, Texas — Richard Joseph Pelletier passed away Friday, Oct. 24, at his home in Mansfield, Texas.

Richard was born on April 1, 1930, to Amede and Alma Pelletier in Fort Kent. He grew up in Lewiston and spent cherished time as a teenager working with his father learning the logging trade.

In 1949, he moved to Auburn to work for Issacson Lumber Co. as a lumberjack, before enlisting into the U.S. Navy in 1951. While in the Navy, Richard served as a U-boat pilot during the Korean War, transporting soldiers from naval ships to the island shores. Upon his honorable discharge, Richard worked as a roofer while raising his family.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing, camping and carpentry. Richard was most recently employed with Franklin Park West Senior Housing in Connecticut, where he worked maintaining the property for 17 years.

He had an uncompromised love for his family and was best known for his warm sense of humor, which his family credits to being born on April 1. Richard lived a full life, treasured the time he spent with his great-grandchildren and continued to express his joyfulness, even through his illness.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Christine Pelletier of Bradenton, Fla., Diane Crary of Mansfield, Texas, Patricia Evans of Arlington, Texas, and Yvonne McLeland of Lewiston; sister, Babe Boulinger, of Rockville, Conn.; companion of 22 years, Dorothy “Dot” Favareau, of Vernon, Conn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Germaine Coulombe; brother, Joseph Pelletier; and sisters, Fernande Pelletier, Georgette Long and Evette Mathieu.
