1923 – 2014

RUMFORD — Helen F. Mitchell, 91, formerly of Dixfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Rumford Community Home.

She was born in Mexico on June 28, 1923, a daughter of Maurice and Anna (Harlow) Horne, and attended Mexico schools.

Helen was a cook; she owned Hel’s Kitchen in Dixfield for many years and later worked at the Opera House Restaurant, until her retirement in 1984.

She was married in Dixfield to Clayton Mitchell, who died in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Provencher and husband, Richard, of Mexico; sons, Dana Mitchell and wife, Carolyn, of Marietta, Ga., and Daniel Mitchell and wife, Carol, of Avon Park, Fla.; a sister, Ruby Jordan and husband, Webster, of Jay; nine grandchildren, Jack Mitchell, Jill McFadden, Jane Simmons, Beth Pieberl, Diane Michaud, Amanda Adams, Jeremy Howlett, Heidi Provencher and Heather Bryant; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Homer, Harold, Stanley and Stanwood Horne, Isa Swan, Rosamond Morang, Mary Gray, Arlene Thibodeau and Jean Haynes.
