NORWAY — The First Unitarian Church of Norway, 479 Main St., has announced November services.
Nov. 2: The Rev. Fayre Stephenson, “To Err Is Human, to Forgive, Divine.” What is done after a mistake is made is important.
Nov. 9: The Rev. Nancee Campbell, “Unrequited Forgiveness: The Higher Calling.” A look at unrequited forgiveness and its necessity in moving forward.
Nov. 16: Murad Sayen, local artist and teacher, will do an offering on a subject to be determined. Currently living in South Paris and painting full time, Sayen concentrates his painting solely in oils on panels in various sizes. View his work on his Facebook page or at FineArtAmerica.com.
Sayen attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned a BA in philosophy of ethics and minored in painting and photography. He did some post-graduate work at the University of Mexico and has capitalized on his artistic gifts in a variety of mediums since the 1970s.
His photography book, “Maine, the Home Place,” was published in 2003, his representation of artistic works were on display at the University of New England Museum Show in 2005, and he retired in 2005 from 35 years of custom one-of-a-kind collectible knife-making to paint full time.
Nov. 23: Stephenson, “A Communion of Thanksgiving.” Members will celebrate a cornbread communion as they reflect on the first Thanksgiving, gratitude and forgiveness.
Nov. 30: Ann Johnson Stone Soup Service. Cumulative of both service and social hour, this event will combine a sermon with readings, poetry, quotes, excerpts and artistic expressions from congregation members and participants. Social hour will consist of a soup made from ingredients brought to church by congregation members from their celebratory meals on Thursday, Nov. 27.
The religious education classes will take lessons from nature. Using the curriculum, “Building Character with True Stories from Nature,” classes will examine forgiveness, this month’s theme.
The curriculum, created by Barbara A. Lewis, uses stories and analogies from nature to provide starting points for character-focused discussion.
Services start at 11 a.m., with childcare available. A coffee hour follows the service.
