BIDDEFORD—Dale C. Bellman, 68, of Biddeford, died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Southern Maine Health Care. He was born in Akron, Ohio, on Aug. 17, 1946, to James Russell Bellman Sr. and Edith (Armour) Bellman.  He attended schools in Ohio before joining the Army in 1965. He moved to Maine in 1981.

He joined the Army from 1965 through 1969 and then went on to work as a law enforcement officer for 17 years before going on to become Bethel’s chief of police for eight years.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors by fishing and hunting with his family. He also enjoyed watching and listening to his son play in a band.

On Dec. 31, 2001, he married Susan Van Tassel in Arundel.

He is survived by his wife, Susan (Van Tassel) Bellman of Biddeford; a brother, Frederick Bellman of North Carolina; two sisters, Joan Errington and Mickey McKenzie, both of Ohio; a daughter, Tammy Roberts and her husband, David of Rumford; four sons, Dale Bellman Jr. of Auburn, James Bellman of Bryant Pond, Christopher Bellman of Bryant Pond and Joseph Bellman of Norway; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and a stepdaughter, Julie Van Tassel of Biddeford.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Bellman Sr.; his mother, Edith Bellman; his brother, Jim “Buster” Bellman and two sisters, Sandy and Arlene.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford, followed by a memorial service. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.
