New Auburn seniors to meet

AUBURN — New Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at noon Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Sacred Heart Church. A light lunch and bingo will follow the meeting.

A turkey dinner will all the fixings will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 19, followed by bingo. There will be a special remembrance for deceased members. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, a Christmas buffet dinner will be held at noon. A social hour will start at 11 a.m. Cost is $10. Barry Wood will entertain.

New members are Jackie Lessard, Irene Obie, Norma Lachance and Blaise Tilton.

Literary union to hear speaker

AUBURN — The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St.

Alan Manoian, economic development specialist for the city of Auburn, will speak on the history of the downtown area surrounding the Foss Mansion and the building of the mansion.

The event is free and open to the public. Those attending the meeting are asked to bring a nonperishable item to be donated to Good Shepherd Food Bank. Light refreshments will be served at the meeting.

Program for birthday of Marines

WAYNE — The 239th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

After a social gathering, a short program will be offered that includes a reading of the “Birthday Message” and a cake-cutting ceremony.

Person to Person series returns

POLAND — The Ricker Memorial Library’s Person to Person Sunday Night monthly series is back.

On Sunday, Nov. 9, Brian Daniels, novelist, musician and songwriter will entertain. A potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. in the community room will be followed by an hour with Daniels.

In 2009, Daniels created Joe Wright, a clueless, middle-aged man hopelessly stuck in the 20th century. Thoughts of an Average Joe is the hilarious rambling of a man whose commentaries voice the confusion and angst of a simple, old dude trying to make sense of life in the modern world.

Bring a salad, casserole or dessert to share for the supper and meet Joe. Daniels will speak at 6:30. The library is at 1211 Maine St. For more information, call 998-4390.
