PORTLAND (AP) — Thousands of Maine electric customers could remain without power into Thursday following a weekend snow storm that has prompted the state to change some polling places this Election Day.
Central Maine Power Co. was reporting more than 49,000 homes and businesses without power on Tuesday morning, with Waldo and Knox counties the hardest hit.
Emera Maine had about 35,000 outages Tuesday morning, concentrated in Hancock and Penobscot counties.
The Maine Secretary of State’s Office has listed several polling place changes on its website, and is urging voters to check before heading out to cast their ballots. That website ishttp://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/voter_info/index.html .
John Myers, president of the Maine Town and City Clerk’s Association, says clerks stand ready to improvise. He says generators or portable heaters will be brought in if necessary.
